Remember when i said this is part of the fun? Wait, that is not all. Cleaning and maintenance also another dreaded i mean fun part of the whole process. This will help prolong the life of your well invested gears and avoid mishaps nobody wants to find out they have a leaky tent once they already arrive at beach side campground.
It is also a good practice to actually test the gear at home right before the trip, especially true for new purchase, try to assemble it at least once before you fumble in the dark in the woods. For well used gears, better to get some time to find replacement should you find any missing piece or to discard malfunctioning equipment beforehand.
Another handy tips, always pack a little more than you might need. Tent capacity for example, go for 6 men tent for a company of for, and 2 men tent is fully loaded with 1 person and his/her backpack. Same goes in the food department, pack extra for some people might have little bit more appetite when camping and also who knows you might make a new friend or two while on the trip, offering food could be a great icebreaker.
